Prambanan Temple Jogjakarta
Prambanan is the bigest temple complex in Southeast Asia which has many reliefs and statue. This temple areas is located in the Prambanan village . Distance from the center of Yogyakarta itself about 20 miles. In addition to being on the border of Yogyakarta and Central Java, in a strategic location along the highway Jogja Solo.
Area of Prambanan temple was built in 850 AD. Not sure whether Prambanan temple was founded by Rakai Pikatan, the second king of Mataram dynasty I or Balitung called Maha Sambu during the Sanjaya dynasty. The researchers have the opinion that the temple complex was abandoned and become damaged shortly after construction was completed. Another name of Prambanan temple has called Lara Jonggarang is related with the legend of this temple.
The Prambanan temple has a rich culture that produces various kinds of stories such as the story of Rama and Sinta is one of the painted reliefs at Prambanan. Relief is also there with a picture of Garuda mythical bird known to man half-bird. Reportedly maketh Garuda Ibecame the state emblem Indonesia was inspired from this temple. Since 1991, Prambanan temple area set as world cultural heritage by UNESCO.
